Frequently Asked Questions

FineFix is a partnership between the Uninsured Division of Maryland Auto Insurance and the Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration (MDOT MVA). It was created by the state of Maryland to help those with overdue uninsured auto fines get back in good standing.

Drivers with uninsured auto fines prior to December 31, 2016 are eligible for the FineFix program. To check whether you're eligible click here

In order to take advantage of FineFix, participants must enroll and make their first payment by December 31, 2019.

The FineFix program gives eligible participants the opportunity to pay 20% of their uninsured auto fines owed to the MVA and have the other 80% forgiven. The remaining balance (20%) can be paid in one lump sum or installments using cash, credit card, or e-check. Installment plans are available in 3-payment and 6-payment options.

We recommend that all FineFix participants set up an account. This will give you access to your account and payment history.

Participants who wish to set up an installment payment plan must create an account. Participants who pay in full are able to complete the process as a guest and are not required to create an account.

Every eligible FineFix participant has a Central Collections Unit (CCU) account number and debtor number. These are two of the identification methods that can be used to verify eligibility and start the FineFix enrollment process.

FineFix-eligible drivers should have received a letter from the program containing their CCU debtor and account numbers. If you are unable to locate your letter, or if you have not received one, you can use other identification criteria to check eligibility on the Find & Fix It page.

You can also contact our FineFix customer service team at 800-492-7120 (Option 8 for FineFix) for help with locating your CCU account information and verifying eligibility.

FineFix Program Partners are organizations who have agreed to provide assistance to FineFix program participants. They include Maryland Auto authorized insurance providers, community and consumer advocacy groups, and tag & title offices.

You can call or visit these offices and a representative will assist you in verifying eligibility, enrolling in the program, and setting up your payment.

Once you have enrolled in the FineFix program and have made the initial qualifying payment, MDOT MVA will lift the FineFix-related flag on your record. At this point, you may be eligible to register a vehicle and purchase insurance.

MDOT MVA will lift the FineFix-related flag against your account within 2-3 business days. If you wish to register a vehicle immediately, you can print your FineFix receipt and go to an MDOT MVA location for assistance.

The FineFix program only applies to MDOT MVA flags related to uninsured auto fines. If you have other flags related to parking tickets, speed camera citations, or EZ Pass fines, you should contact the issuing authority.
